2010 Amusement Parks and Attraction Tickets

If you are planning on visiting any theme parks, or attractions in and around Pennsylvania, then check with us first!  In partnership with Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society we will be offering tickets for over 25 different amusement parks and attractions.  These tickets are at a special reduced rate available no where else, well below the gate price.  Discount tickets can be obtained for the following parks and attractions:  Adventure Aquarium, Baltimore Aquarium, B&O Railroad Museum, Busch Gardens/Water Country USA, Camelbeach at Camelback Ski Area, Cedar Point, Colonial Williamsburg, DelGrosso’s Amusement Park, Dorney Park, Dutch Wonderland, Geauga Lake, Hersheypark, Idlewild, Kennywood, Kings Dominion, Knoebels Amusement Park, Morey’s Piers, Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, Philadelphia Zoo, Pittsburgh Zoo, Sandcastle, Sesame Place, Six Flags America, Six Flags Great Adventure, Splash Zone Water Park (Wildwood NJ), and Waldameer Park. Egg-O-Rama and the Easter Bunny    Saturday, April 3

The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up with Butler Township to bring you a special surprise.  Join us for what is sure to be a fun-filled evening with crafts, goodies, pizza, and of course the Easter Bunny!  This event is designed for children ages toddler thru 10.  The cost is $7.00 per child (age 1 and under are free), and takes place on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at the Butler Township Park Building on 468 South Duffy Road 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Please call the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department for details and registration. Pre-registration is required.

 

Basic Boating Safety Course    Tuesday, May 25 and  Wednesday, May 26(must attend both days)

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission’s Basic Boating Course was developed to supply boaters with practical information so they can make better informed decisions on the water. Instructors provide students with information to help them reduce the risk of injury and conflict on the water. This course is taught by Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission employees and certified volunteer instructors.  Boating Safety Education Certificates are required for all operators of personal watercraft, and for boat operators born after January 1, 1982 that operate motorboats of more than 25 horsepower. Students who successfully complete this course may apply for a Boating Safety Education Certificate issued by the Commission. To receive a Boating Safety Education Certificate, the student must send a check or money order for $10.00 to the Commission. The class is free. Participants must attend both days of the class. Class times are 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. and are held at the Butler Township Park Building. Minimum and maximum limits apply to the courses. The registration deadline is May 1, and all registration is taken at the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department. Pre-registration is required.

 

Monday Movies in the Park    Mondays, July 5 - August 2

Come out to Alameda Park and enjoy one of your favorite movies in the park. Beginning on Monday, July 5 and continuing through August 2, we will be hosting a FREE Monday Movie in the Park every Monday evening. The movies will start at 8:30 p.m. (or when it gets dark enough) and will be held at the Masonic Shelter just outside the pool. Come and join us; the price is right and the popcorn tastes great!

 

13th Annual Bocce Tournament     Saturday, August 21

This annual tournament is sponsored by the Butler County Bocce Association and the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department and features Bocce teams from all over Butler County competing in a single elimination tournament to crown the Best of Butler. Walk, Run and Roll                      Saturday, August 7

Walkers, runners, wheelchair users and their families are invited to join us at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2010 as we walk, run, roll or stroll(er) over a two-mile course at Alameda Park to raise money for Community Care Connections, Inc.  A picnic lunch at the Masonic Shelter will follow along with a variety of games and activities for both children and adults.  For a registration form contact Community Care Connections, Inc. at (724) 283-3198 or go to www.communitycareconnect.org for more information.

Sponsored by Butler Pentastars Car Club; this is Butler’s only all Mopar car show. Mopars from the tri-state area and beyond are coming to Alameda Park. Doggie Paddle Pool Party at Alameda Pool                              Sunday, September 12

Alameda Pool has gone to the dogs! The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department is offering this very special program to all dog lovers. Treat your four-legged pet to a swim in Alameda Pool. We are opening the pool for a canine only swim! Lifeguards will be on duty, the playstation will be on, and our four-legged friends can enjoy a leisurely dip in Alameda Pool. The pool will be open from 1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m., and canine admission is only $5.00! Please remember to bring a copy of your pet’s license, and a copy of their current vaccination records. Come to Alameda with your dog or puppy, and let them enjoy this unique opportunity. Alameda Pool, 1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Doggie Fun Day                                                                        Sunday, September 12

The Butler Dog Training Association will hold the Doggie Fun Day at Alameda Park from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Among the many activities planned for the day are: agility rings for owner/dog teams with no experience and for teams with more advanced skills, a rally obedience ring, micro-chipping by a licensed veterinarian, breed and obedience competition, agility, and Canine Good Citizen/Therapy Dog testing. The event will also include great homemade food, a large raffle of doggie items, and many vendors. So bring your dog and a lawn chair and stay for the day! The 13th Annual Alameda Fall Fest, Fishing Tournament and Car Cruise

                                                                               Sunday, September 26

The Annual Alameda Fall Fest features our Award Winning Youth Fishing Tournament (yes, we have live fish in Alameda Pool), along with games, activities, music, booths, prizes, presenters, and the Annual Alameda Fall Fest Car Cruise. The fun starts at 12:00 noon on Sunday and continues until 5:30 p.m. with the Award Winning 13th Annual Alameda Youth Fishing Tournament! Last year, we gave away fishing poles, hundreds of door prizes and giveaways, had plenty of food and drinks, tons of fun things to do like ride mini ponies, and the petting zoo, and we even had a special appearance by the Old Country Buffet Bee mascot. We have three age groups fishing at different times, and all kinds of entertainment throughout the day. Each age group will fish for an hour and 45 minutes. Advance registration is being accepted at the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department. Advance registration is not necessary, but is appreciated, and you will be able to get to your “spot” faster! Pre-registered anglers will also receive an “Angler Care Package”, from the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department.  Mailed in registration forms must be received at the Butler County Parks and Recreation Office no later than two weeks before the date of the event. The cost is $5.00/angler for pre-registration, and $6.00/angler at the door. If you just want to come out and watch all the fun, admission is free. Prizes, door prizes, and awards will be offered throughout the day. Featured events and activities include:

Family Fishing Fun!                                                                          Saturday, October 2

Join the PA Fish and Boat Commission at the Family Fishing Fun Event at the Alameda Pool. This program is family oriented and designed to teach basic fishing skills, safety, technique, outdoor manners, rod rigging, watershed education, and more for freshwater fishing in PA. This is a great opportunity to ask the experts for advice, learn about the aquatic environment, spend quality time with your family, and try to catch the elusive Alameda Trout! The program is designed for family fun, and runs from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Pre-registration is required, and there is a $4.00 registration fee charged by  Butler County Parks and Recreation. Participant minimum and maximum apply to this program. No fishing license required for this program. Fishing equipment will be provided. Registration deadline is Wednesday, September 23, space permitting.

Annual Haunted Bonfire          _________________________  Saturday, October 23

THE HAUNTING SEASON HAS BEGUN! All are invited to bring a lawn chair and enjoy an evening of ghost stories and music with our featured storyteller. Enjoy a cup of hot chocolate, along with popcorn and hotdogs, in front of a roaring bonfire, and listen to the storyteller take you on a journey into the spooky, weird, and bizarre world of Halloween. Bring your own fixings and make s’mores. We also have a piñata, and the Alameda Treasure Dig! There is an admission fee of only $7.00 per child!  Make sure you dress up in your Halloween costume! Join all the ghouls at the Masonic Shelter at 6:30 p.m. for a hauntingly good time! Pre-registration is preferred.

Flashlight Candy Cane Hunt                                                    Saturday, November 27

Join us for what is sure to be a fun evening. We are having our Annual Light Up Night of Alameda Park, and we want you to join us. Divine Ridge, a praise band from Butler, will lead us in singing all of our favorite Christmas Carols. We are also going to be looking for all the candy canes that have been rumored to be hidden around the Carousel Shelter! Bring your flashlight and after we decorate a bag for the candy canes, we will go and look for the hidden candy canes. After we find them, we will regroup back at the Carousel Shelter and enjoy some hot chocolate while singing carols with Divine Ridge and our special guest Santa! Pre-registration is required. The cost is $5.00 per child. The fun starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Carousel Shelter.

The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up with Butler Township to bring you a special surprise. We have managed to talk Santa (after he spoke with the Easter Bunny!) into joining us for breakfast. Join us for what is sure to be a fun-filled breakfast with crafts, and goodies. And of course Santa! The Breakfast with Santa program is designed for children ages toddler thru 10. The cost is $7.00 per child (age 1 and under are free) and takes place at the Butler Township Park Building on South Duffy Road, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Pre-Registration is required.

 

Free Fishing Rod Loaner Program       _______________       All Year Long 

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department are offering free loans of fishing rods, reels and basic tackle. In return, you must take reasonable care of the equipment and return the equipment on the specified date. The borrower will be responsible for cost of the rod and other equipment should they not be returned. In addition, those borrowing the equipment must agree to safe, ethical conduct while fishing, as well as obeying PA Fish Commission laws and regulations.

CAMP ALAMEDA

Education, Nature, Safety, and Fun are the guidelines for this activity based day camp. Camp Alameda is filled with games, activities, arts and crafts, swimming every day, and lots more! Each week has activities, crafts, games and guests geared around a weekly theme. Camp Alameda program begins at 9:00 a.m. and runs until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. We offer an early drop-off at 7:00 a.m. and a late pickup until 5:30 p.m. at no extra charge! (You must note on your registration form if you will be taking advantage of our early drop-off or late pickup.)

 

Camp sessions are one week in length and campers are divided into age appropriate activities throughout the day. Don’t worry about missing swim lessons, swim team practice or attending one of our many special events. If requested, our counselors will make sure that your child gets to any of these programs in Alameda Park, and back to camp! All campers must be potty trained and at least 4 years of age. Campers should bring a sack lunch with them. Campers should also pack a bathing suit, suntan lotion, and towel everyday. Snacks and beverages will be provided throughout the day. The cost for Camp Alameda is $110.00 per child per week ($95.00 for each additional sibling registered for the same week), and we also have a special 10-week discount for only $900.00! Let your kids have fun this summer; register today for Camp Alameda. If your child is age 12 or older, ask about our C.I.T. (counselor in training) program.

Camp Alameda takes flight with model rockets, explores the art of model building, has fun with arts and crafts, learns how to build birdhouses, and much more! We may even have a visit from the PA Game Commission!

Back to Nature                                        July 12 – 16

This week, Camp Alameda explores the great outdoors to see what nature has to offer.  Join the Camp as we look for edible plant life, identify some of our local "residents", and idscover just how wonderful the great outdoors can be!

Sherlock Safety                                        July 19-23

Camp Alameda is all about safety this week.  Join all of our special guests as we learn about fire safety, water safety, home safety, safe games, activities, and what to do in an emergency.  Gyuaranteed to be a fun exciting week, especially with our special guests!

Animal Adventures                                     July 26-30

Lions and Tigers and Bears! Oh my! Actually Deer, Turkey, and Squirrels! Oh yeah! Join Camp Alameda as we discover what is living in the woods, and how important they are to our environment and us.

PROGRAMS, SPORTS, AND CLASSES

Sand Volleyball Leagues       _______________________            Wednesday, May 26

Sand Volleyball leagues are back!!!  All games, including playoffs, will take place at the sand volleyball courts in Alameda Park. Team space is limited so reserve your team’s spot in the league now.

*5 on 5 teams for the Co-ed League (all ages and skill

  levels).

*Teams will consist of 5-10 players per team.

*All players must be on the team roster to play.

*Minimum of six teams and maximum of twelve teams apply.

*$80.00 per team.

*League Registration begins on April 1 at the Butler County Parks and Recreation Office.

*League informational and rules meeting is scheduled for May 26 at 6:00 p.m. at the Pine Shelter located by the sand volleyball courts.

*League play will begin on June 9, at 5:30 p.m.

Ultimate Frisbee League                     Thursday, June 3

The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department will be holding an informational meeting for all interested parties on Thursday, June 3 at 6:00 p.m. at the Pine Shelter in Alameda Park. League fees are $60.00/team. League play will begin on Thursday, June 10 at 5:30 p.m. For more information and league details, please call the Park Office.

 

Alameda Co-ed Flag Football League     Sunday, October 10 

 

The Alameda Co-ed Flag Football League is back!  This 7 on 7 Co-ed Flag Football League is great fun and will begin October 10.  Teams must be pre-registered through the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department.  A complete set of rules and guidelines is available upon registration.  A maximum of twelve  teams and a minimum of six teams is required.  Registration is $100.00 per team and includes season and playoff fees.  A League meeting will be held Sunday October 10 at 9:00 a.m. to finalize the league schedule and dates.  League play will begin the same day.  All teams must be pre-registered by October 8.  Please call the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department with any questions.

 

                                                         

American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training Classes

We will conduct American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training Class periodically throughout the year. This class is designed for ages 11-15. The class emphasis is on five main areas: prevention, safety, responsibility, leadership, and professionalism. Class locations are in Slippery Rock Park, Butler Township Park, Fairview Township, Clinton Township, Adams Township.  Pre-registration is required due to class size limits. The cost is $49.00 per participant and includes all books and materials needed for the course. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive an American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training Course Certification. Please call the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department for more information, registration and class availability. Class size is limited so please register early.

All classes are scheduled to coincide with the affected school district’s scheduled day off. Should the day off change, we will reschedule classes. Dates may have changed after printing due to availability.  Please call the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department for current dates.
